Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA.
Federal Grants are 47% of money given that doesn’t need to be repaid. Furthermore you need to fill out a FAFSA in order to find out if you qualify for work-study programs and loans.
Many private colleges require students to fill out a CSS profile in addition to (not instead of) FAFSA. A CSS profile is also used to assess expected family contribution to determine your financial aid package. Here is a list of the schools who use CSS Profile.
